Explore how opportunities for meaningful work aid toddlers’ individual development and self-regulation, while supporting the emergence of a peaceful Toddler community. You will be offered a connection between Maria Montessori’s writings and criteria for creating environments and materials that support a toddler’s desire for autonomy, mastery, and purpose. We will contrast developmentally appropriate Toddler environments with Early Childhood environments and discuss how to avoid the much discussed but often poorly defined “watered-down Early Childhood environment.” You will come away with tools for creating a safe and appealing environment that sparks each child’s interest and aids in the child’s ability to be a contributing member of the toddler community.
